Re: Variance should be Paramount

I played from Prem - Reflection II. Started playing again during the pandemic. What I've noticed is how everything is so efficient now. Too efficient. So many cards pulled from reserve, probably on 1st turn. If your deck doesn't pull all its locations by turn 2 you are probably going to lose. There...

Re: What would your solution be to balance TRM?

What would your solution be to balance TRM? Trick question! "Solution" implies that there is a "problem" with TRM in the first place :2gunfire: Hah, I don't think there is a problem with TRM. I would recommend reading the thread. The question I posed pertains to after we have a reset. The primary i...

Re: Variance should be Paramount

I think there is a bunch of misconceptions going on already here. Nobody is talking about having a bunch of locations in your deck that you can't pull and it's super fine to draw them for destiny. I absolutely think locations should be resonably pullable, and I think Quickdraw made a super good ana...

Re: What would your solution be to balance TRM?

Throne Room won 51% of its games in the OCS in May. Legend won 64% of its games. Both of these had large enough sample sizes (50+ games) to where the results are reliable. When TRM is winning over 10% less games then Legend, it probably doesn’t need to be fixed. Instead, the problem is people don’t...

Re: Variance should be Paramount

A lot of what you said is key. My personal opinion is that we should reduce down the power level of cards so they are in balance with Decipher cards, but I think a reset is close that it's probably smartest to do it then (though I think it would be a great exercise for D&D to try it for the next se...

Re: What would your solution be to balance TRM?

I liked the approach Decipher took in later sets - high deploy, with a -2 modifier for going to their thematic locations. The virtual sets have mostly done away with this, causing a lot of virtual mains to turn up in TRM. I’d like to have seen Rey as deploy 6, -2 to Jakku, for example - which would...

Re: What would your solution be to balance TRM?

Hunter was right. Yavin IV: Throne room shouldn't exist. As long as the decipher cards at the core of the deck exist, the deck is going to exist. You could reset everything again, and wesa, speak, and the throne room would still be a thing. This is my biggest sticking point, and why I think all the...

Re: What would your solution be to balance TRM?

In of itself, there is nothing imbalanced about TRM. ... and perhaps ties key characters to specific objections or locations (much in the same way old mains could only deploy to X, or deployed -2 to X). Yeah I agree with you there, I don't think TRM is unbalanced, and don't want to get rid of it. I...

What would your solution be to balance TRM?

Figured I would start a separate thread. A very common problem I see come up time and time again when attempting to balance the game, or release new cards, or prepare for a reset, is the issue of TRM. The most common points I've seen made over the years with the problem with TRM (not my own) and in ...

Re: Variance should be Paramount

Just curious: for those who want to get away from too many free pulls and redraws, how do you feel about 3PO and 4-LOM which let you cycle through cards? I’ve personally always thought they were bad for the game and were just as big of a contributor to lack of variance as other cards. But... I’m no...

Re: Variance should be Paramount

I agree with some of the above sentiments that the game could be helped by slowing it down so that mid-game didn't start turn two. I don't really know how to do this, though. I suppose one way to do this would be to create a host of new Objectives that would encourage new decks, as well as adjustin...

Re: Variance should be Paramount

I personally look through everything from a balancing and trade-off perspective, risk and reward if you will. In my opinion that is how you continue to balance the game and keep it fresh and fun. Taking a look at locations as an example - Increasing variance in locations potentially played should be...

Re: Variance should be Paramount

Wow, I can't say how much I love this thread. Thank you Hayes for starting the conversation. I think this is critical that we discuss these more and analyze the state of the game when we are nearing a reset since typically before a reset is when we have deviated the most from Decipher's game and mec...

Inverse Power Creep

Hey guys, I've noticed the forums seem to be dying out recently in activity and I've always felt that the forums provide a whole other additional element to the game and keeps it fresh in between playing games and the new V set cards being released. On that note, some food for thought is on what I c...

Re: Revisiting No Idea

Stardust (0) Deploy on Data Vault. At any time (unless at Data Vault and opponent occupies that site), may relocate Stardust to your spy present. No good. Can you imagine if someone who loves you was not a card and dark could drain at the AC against Profit? Dark would simply stack the site with eve...

Re: Running Rough Draft of card pool stats

Color me confused :??? Wedge Antilles has a deploy-to-power ratio of 1 (2/2). A difference of 0. Do you mean deploy-to-forfeit difference 4+? That works because he's 2 to 6. Which would be a ratio of 1/3, but a difference of 4. Yeah good point I’ll adjust and remove ratio as it’s not a ratio but re...

Your "Fundamental Guidelines" needs to read this (https://forum.starwarsccg.org/viewtopic ... 82&t=64089). D&D is not as strictly bound to these guidelines as player creator are, but it is still the baseline when introducing stats.

Running Rough Draft of card pool stats

Hey all, I've compiled several different categories so we can analyze things from a 10,000 foot view as well as provide D&D with something to reference for the masterminds that they are. I'm going to give an immediate disclaimer - this is a running rough draft list so I would appreciate your feedbac...
