It does two lists, dark and light side, both alphabetical. So it works quite well.
Apollyon wrote:The most useful thing is paper result slips that you turn in to whoever's taking results. That way, you win, you fill it out that you win, both people sign it, you run it up, then do stuff. The result person doesn't need to be there all the time, so they'll have time to hit the bathroom or get food.
We probably don't have enough players to NEED to do results slips, but if someone has time to make them, they can certainly help speed things up for the TD.
The software made these last year. I printed them out and put them on the table up front. People came up and filled them in as games finished.

Just so we're clear, I don't have a functional printer and so as of right now am not planning on bringing one. Someone else said they would, right?

Whoever is running it, I'd print the pairings twice and post them in 2 locations. This way half room can go to one and half go to other. Should help speed things up.

Print out result slips. If you want and have the manpower, cut them up and give them to each table. They sign them and bring them up to turn in. If not, print them out and put them on the table. People can come up and sign them after the game is over.

Save after you make pairings. Save after you enter in results. Save save save. You never know when something might crash. Having print outs and saving often enough can make rebuilding things much shorter.

Don't make the feature table, table #1. If that table is in a spot that is disadvantageous (like say the one spot in the room that doesn't get good AC or air from fan), it might make the event tougher on people who don't lose. I'd just choose the best matchup, and mark that or highlight it on the pairings and put them at the feature.

Someone could go to the business center and take that one out of there and put it in the conf room.

I can confirm that I will be bringing a printer. I just need to know:
1) Will it be hooked up to a Mac or a PC? (I haven't tried Mac drivers before)
2) What time should I bring it by to get it set up on Thursday?

It shouldn't matter on Mac or PC. Most printers work with basic printer drivers either way. Should just be able to go to the manufacturer's website and find the drivers for it. They can do this on site.

With the potential for 60-70 players to be there, the only way I see printing as being beneficial is if you print like 5 copies that get passed around and only a few people can see the page at once. Why go through that hassle when you can show it on a tv where all players can see it at once?
Also, it seems like a waste of paper and ink.
Generally you print a couple copies and tape them to the wall. People go up and look, find their table number, and sit down. It's pretty efficient actually, even with like 150 people.
For reference, Magic tournaments with 2K players still use paper pairings.
They also post them online (at least they did for the GP this weekend) which is where I found my pairing most of the time.

And twitter too for some of them.

We could have it autopost to a website but that is a feature enhancement. I think in a world of technology we have, this should be doable.

I'll probably have one as well, since I'll be bringing my laptop.
