Europeans Unite at Worlds 2018

Post by Shadow 14 »

I have booked by flight and hotel and will be at Worlds 2018!

We have unfortunately put the dates between European championship and Worlds a bit close this year.

If this is causing any Euro players to chose between the two... then chose Worlds!!

We'll have Euro Worlds again next year (2019), and it would be nice to have a higher attendance from Euro players this year.

Check out Expedia (click & mix OR flight & hotel combination booking). They sometimes have super combi offers, especially early.

See you in Morristown!!!

I plan to attend. Looking for flights and accomodations at the moment. Since my wife will accompany me and we will do a vacation around the tournament, i need some additional infos.

Plan so far is to
1) fly into New York on saturday the 29th
2) stay in 1 New York hotel without a car until either thursday the 4th or friday the 5th. We want to visit a Giants/Jets game on sunday, maybe visit a Broadway show and do all the sightseeing that New York offers
3) stay at worlds hotel in Morristown until monday the 8th
4) rent a car on monday and tour New England for a couple of days
5) fly home from New York on friday the 12th

Questions:
1) How many people are usually in attendance on thursday? Is it worth it to arrive a day early or is early friday enough?
2) Are most people leaving early on sunday or will there be enough people around on sunday until the evening at least?
3) Anything else about the plan that locals do not recommend?

Looking forward to see a bunch of people from way back then!

Answers:

1) Thursday attendance is not usually very high, maybe 10 people or so. It was usually the day that people with a Bye showed up, played a Cube or Sealed deck qualifier and tried to earn that bye. But since we no longer have Byes, I wouldnt really expect much to be going on that day.
2) Most people should be around until 5-6 pm at least on Sunday. The people local to the area that can drive home (within 3-4 hours) will probably leave around then, and some others might catch late flights home, but I would expect at least half the players to be around until Monday morning.
3) Plan sounds pretty solid- gives you plenty of time for sightseeing, and its good weather that time of year, especially for a football game. The schedule wont be announced for a couple of months yet, so I have no idea who will be playing that weekend. Both teams had lackluster years this season but should be able to bounce back with some good draft choices. It's about a 4.5 hour trip up to Boston, and only about 8 hours if you wanted to go all the way to Maine. Or maybe you could just go up through NY all the way to Montreal, if you haven't been to Canada yet.

I heard a rumor that you might be trying to make this trip, so its nice to have it confirmed

More people stay Sunday night than Thursday night, if that helps. People tend to trickle in throughout the day on Friday. I'm not sure what the Friday events will be this year so that will probably determine exactly when people arrive. Leaving on Sunday can feel rushed, and it's fun staying up late that night after all the tournaments are done.

I think Worlds 2018 will be big. Glad to hear so many are flying in. I convinced ALL the old Albany guys to come down for it. So there's 10+ people from that group. People will not be disappointed in the turnout.

I hope people like Morristown (my new hometown). The hotel is right in a nice downtown with tons of bars (there's one right across the street actually) and 50+ restaurants. There's a retro arcade within walking distance (http://www.morristowngamevault.com/), an Escape Room across the street from the hotel (http://www.trapdoorescape.com/) and tons of other stuff. As we get closer to the event I'll post some recommendations of places to eat, visit, etc.. :-D

Oh this was a methodical post. My blood line is uropien more than most uropiens! Sure, when do I move in and could I be stationed in Germany out in the hill country? So I can be accurate in life? Or perhaps a little more Mediterranean please?

Sadly, I don't believe in factions of people out side of corrupt, accurate and helpless. Some times you can be any of the two but not often more than one

This tread, as Episode 8 and life in general, is sure going into an entirely different direction as I expected.

If you guys end up going to a sporting event I’m sure some Americans would love to join and hang out in a non-Swccg context.

The NFL schedule should be released in mid-April, just before the NFL draft, so that should give you plenty of time to see what the game that week is. The NBA will still be in pre-season, and both the Mets and Yankees will likely be done for the year by October 1st, but those might be decent alternatives.
