Corona Cup 2020 - 1st-25th October 2020

Post by Yoda007 »

Hello Everyone,

here are some updates so we'll have the ball rolling, in the next few days we'll clarify all the missing bits.

What's the format?

In the spirit of Euros, where both competitive players and fun Freds attend, and our main goal is to have a great weekend with friends around, we tried to come up with a unique way to imitate real life fun online.

From 1st October the finest players of our time will have a chance to participate in the best online event yet, and compete for the one and only Corona Cup. Well, actually 3 of them... they are spreading like the virus in a crowded province.

Form a team of 3, and battle your fierce opponents in 3 rounds, to arrive to our final on the weekend of 24-25th October. Sounds easy? Here are the rules to make it more complicated:
- choose a team name
- each team must contain at least 2 nationalities - you get an extra prize if all 3 members come from a different country (dual nationality players will count as both - DDM is French/Italian, so he needs some German and Dutch buddies)
- each team may contain up to 1 US member // we'll favor European schedules.
- each member will play in a different format (formats pending on GEMP team)
- post the members and team names here. If you are player without a team, post in this thread about your intentions.
- we'll play in swiss format, and you will have around 1 week to play your games against assigned opponents in match-play format. Winner of the matchup gets 1 point, totaling to 3 if all players win from your team.
- decks of player 1: open
- decks of player 2: jawa format
- decks of player 3: virtual reality - 1 copy per card title. no rares or premium ( eg. ref2, ref3, EPP cards) cards are allowed, except for objectives and defensive shields (but remember, even though HD is legal, the starting cards are not). All V-Cards are legal - regardless of the rarity of the card below. ;) ;)

What can you win?

Every player entering the event will get a nice FOIL slip. And the team winning the event will get a nice trophy... i mean 3 trophies.
However, this event really is about us missing the European Championship, the following prizes will be given to those players who attend our next EC in 2021.
- every team that completes a round gets a foil - 3 in total (for each player of course)
- the winners and runner-ups are in for a special treat as well
- each participant will get Mistery Pack(s)
- don't get greedy, you think all this is not enough? I see. Come back later, maybe the list will grow :)
- so, you came back... i heard five words: Golden Blast From The Past

This sounds great, but let's talk money!

The event is for free. You read it right. Get a team and join! 8>
However, if you are willing and able to support our buddies at the Vier Winden in Germany, i think this will be a great opportunity to do that. The details will be posted later. I'm matching all donations up to €200.

If you have any questions, let me know below! I'll be updating the information as soon as I have clarified them.

Timeline
Deadline for entry: Friday, 25th September 2020 23:00 CET
Announcement of first round: latest Monday, 28th September 2020

Start of the event and Round 1: Thursday, 1st October 2020 0:00 CET
End of Round 1: Tuesday, 6th October 2020 24:00 CET

Start of Round 2: Thursday, 8th October 2020 0:00 CET
End of Round 2: Tuesday, 13th October 2020 24:00 CET

Start of Round 3: Thursday, 15th October 2020 0:00 CET
End of Round 3: Tuesday, 20th October 2020 24:00 CET

Final Confrontation
24-25th October from 10:00 to 16:00 CET. so all games can be streamed. If that's something people are into... :popcrn:

This is a placeholder topic for the upcoming online event.

Plan for October - if our alien overlords will allow, we'll have some online games for special prizes!
At the rate we are going in the US, I'm guessing we'll have figured out how to transmit COVID across the internet by then too.

If anyone wants a US guy that would love to play in any non-open format, let me know.

Pretty flexible on times for weekends. Weekdays are tougher since I work 8-5 at the office.

This is fantastic! Very clever.

I wonder if there will be enough European teams for all the US players wanting to join!

Robbie. We never got that axe-burying beer at worlds. How about an axe-burying team?

Can we find another european we've debated heatedly with to join?

Are virtual cards allowed in Episode I? What about the Senate and Combat shields?

Sounds good. I think we might need a Swede or Menzel to join up with us...

Edit to ping them.

Ep 1 is pretty limited, IMO.

Two other potential suggestions that could be fun (though by all means, if you like Ep1, stick with it, but just ideas):
- Jawa
- P-DS2

Yeah, since then Kevin and I realized that too. Probably it's going to be Jawa. I'd hate to see so many robot decks. :D

I was planning to play in the EC again this year before 2020 happened...so I'm throwing my hat in the ring. I will stock up on the Krombacher to approximate the experience! Happy to play any of the formats.
