2021 Yavin IV League Discussion
2021 Yavin IV League Discussion
We definitely have a couple things to discuss here.
If there is excess entry fee money after paying for the League Kit and shipping prizes, what would you like to do with it? One idea I had was to make a Yavin IV League winner playmat (would be about $15 shipped) or "Cup" (mug). We could also give that money to first place and/or split it with second place, etc. Or I could just refund it.
What formats would you like to see? Our first 2 events will be Open; would you like to see P-DS2, P-R2, Jawa, Limited Resources, and/or Cube Objective formats as well? Something completely different like randomized decks or an objective draft?
What time of events would you like to see? Our first 2 events are OCS-style (just post a game and see who joins or join an already posted game); would you like to see scheduled weekly games and/or 1-day events? Something completely different like random pairings?
We have the opportunity to run one of the events as a States. I figured we would call it whichever state has the most entrants (or just call it DC Territorials because we can). Is there a month or event number that would be best for this? Would everyone be ok with the winner of the "States" event winning the T-shirt that comes in the kit?
Feel free to add anything else or ask any other questions here as well.

Excess money - something like a playmat sounds cool and memorable. It seems like there won’t be a ton of money so I’m not too concerned with it. I’m also not going to be the one receiving this so let’s hear what the gooder players want.
Formats - personally I’d like as much open as possible. I’d be amenable to Jawa or limited resources (if I understand this one right) but I’m not very interested in the p-ds2 or other non-virtual type stuff. But don’t cater to just one person if there is demand.
Types - ocs seems like it will get most total participation but I think it would be cool to change this up. I’d like (at least) one event to be a paired matchup thing if people are up for it. I know schedules may be a little tough so there will surely be some lost matches tho, so whatever works for most.
States - DC Territorials sounds perfect. Make it so. This may be one to do actual Swiss over an extended period? But whatever.

Playmat is a great idea. Don’t really care about the money.
Would like mostly open but a Jawa mid way through would be cool.
OCS style definitely works best for my schedule.
X2 for DC Territorials.

Same, but "Districts" for DC. It's not a territory!

Everything folks have said sounds great. One Jawa would be fun, but mostly open would also be my preference. Looking forward to losing a bunch of games (and hopefully talking with folks over Discord/Skype/Tin can and String/Whatever we can come up with)

Re: 2021 Yavin IV League Discussion
I have no real opinions for the name and prizes. Not super interested in P-DS2, but I would probably enjoy a sealed or cube one month to mix things up. I also like the Jawa format. and then I wouldn't be opposed to scheduling one tournament type day for states or whatever at some point. but generally I think the ocs style league would be the easiest for everyone.

One thing I want to note is that while the first 2 events are going to run about 6 weeks, the next few will probably be 1-month long. So keep that in mind.
Does something like this sound good?
Event 1: 1 March to 15 April - 6-games Open, OCS style
Event 2: 16 April to 31 May - 6-games Open, OCS style
Event 3: 1 June to 30 June - 4-games Open, weekly matchups
Event 4: 1 July to 31 July - 6-games Jawa, OCS style
Event 5: 1 August to 11 September - 6-games Open (maybe with a Final?), weekly matchups, "DC Districts"
Event 6: ~September 25th at noon - 4-games Cube/Jawa/Limited Resources, all in one day

Re: 2021 Yavin IV League Discussion
What does “6 games open” vs “4 games open” mean? Is that the limit on games played in the league? I thought ocs style meant no game limit, just no repeat opponents per side. Or does it mean 6 total games per side, 12 games total? That would be fine.TacoBill wrote:One thing I want to note is that while the first 2 events are going to run about 6 weeks, the next few will probably be 1-month long. So keep that in mind.

Weekly matchups in June, I don’t know if this will be closer to a normal summer but we may lose some matches to vacations. Does weekly matchups mean match play, or just assign a side for the week?

Re: 2021 Yavin IV League Discussion
When I think OCS-style, I just think of 'Post a table whenever you can, and if someone is around (and in the league) they can join in'. I had only planned on it being 6 total games (wanted to make it easy for everyone to get all their games in) but would be happy to talk about increasing that number.stimpy wrote: ↑February 25th, 2021, 10:03 amWhat does “6 games open” vs “4 games open” mean? For the weekly matchups it would just be 1 game a week (ie LS in Week 1, DS in week 2, etc)

We could start with the six and increase it for later months if that's not enough

Might be ideal to have a thread where we can post when looking for a game

If everyone's on the SWCCG slack, we can set up a dedicated channel for the league.

Have you been able to register and get a username yet? We will need that to send you an inviteLawrenceofAlexandria wrote: ↑February 28th, 2021, 5:05 pmIs this the plan? I'm including a link to join Slack in the e-mail I'm sending out, so we should be able to get Rich in there.

Just a reminder for all players, cards will be legal as they are coded on Gemp. That means if you play your games now, you can use cards like Rescue in the Clouds v and Imperial Justice v in their current iterations. Once the erratas and v14 arrive on Gemp, they will be legal at that time.
