3 rounds for the team tournament last year sucked... is there any way to petition for 4?

Thats my fault. I thought people wanted 3. We have time for 4 definately. Its an easy fix if its ok with Chris.

Sounds awesome. Ironman format looks like sooo much fun! The two Day 1s is a cool idea, curious to see how it works out, should definitely encourage more old school players to come out.

um, can anyone play in worlds day 1? because 300/200 being given away is pretty legit.

Yeah, why is 2nd place on Day 1 making more than 5th place on Day 3?

The problem with letting anyone play is that people with byes take up slots in the 'top 50%' equation. I will think about if there is a way to do this though.

We had an anonymous donor give money specifically for this tournament- if you'd like to sponsor some additional donations, they'd be welcome. ;)

You could just...assign top 50% to number of contestants competing without byes, then give those byes to top ranking players in the event that don't have byes already.

Like, 20 people without byes play, 10 with byes play...you still only give out 10 new byes instead of 15

it also gets into territory that people with byes can give wins to people without byes, that's somewhat tempered by the prize money though.. i dunno, it just sucks that its a bit of dough that i can't play in after doing well at the 2k event in the winter.

here's how you do it:
people can give up their byes earned at another event (not pass it down, just decide not to use it).
if you don't have a bye, you can play day 1.

BUT the risk is, you MUST then qualify in day 1 (i.e. no giving up a bye to play in day 1, scrubbing, then using your bye from another event - you give it up to play, you have to earn your way in day 1).

it's fair and legit that way i think

its actually a perfect rule i just don't see anyone coughing up the day 2 bye unless they can't play in day 2.

ironman sealed.

let me just say that the "one pack when you win" is not NEARLY going to be enough.

ok to fix it: You start with 3x15 + 2x9 = 63 cards.

I would say that you make 50 card decks and each round you are given 2 more premier and 2 more JP and still make a 50 card deck.

With those pack make ups...your decks are going to be awful. The JP will ensure you have some cards with ability. But if you get a system and a ship...game over.

Anyway it sounds like a blast. Are you doing this squirrel format?

Yes, it will be squirrel format.

And your deck being awful is sort of the point/fun. You definitely won't have a legal deck as you move forward, and when you get to the top 2, they will probably only have 10-15 cards each to play with.

yes i realize that is the point of the event. just noting that you can still accomplish the point while maintaining playable quantities of cards.

The benefit for winning by a high diff is you get better card selection too.

Let me put this another way. The guy who faces the noob/person who doesn't care/person who doesn't understand sealed...will be unstoppable after round 1.

also not sure what packs you have available to use...but I would use CC and institute a rule where you butt the tat sites and cc sites next to each other and can move freely. premier is just so awful but the randomness of space will be a complete unbalancing factor.

either way, glad you are trying different fun sealed format...wish I was coming.

Does anyone have any issues with making Day 1 "Top 50% of non-qualified entrants" and allowing anyone to play?

Chris,

I remember at worlds, you passed your dark cards (or vice versa) to someone you opened packs with. So you got the light cards, they got the dark, etc. So you can do it one side if you want. You can also do it squirrel style.

I see what you mean Evan. What about a different mix of cards. Like 1 JP, 1 CC, 1 Premiere and 1 Reflections I and 1 JP OTSD Premium pack plus one vader/luke.

So you get (skip the rare/foil)
8 + 8 + 14 + 17 + 10

Everyone gets 57 cards plus you figure in 10 packs (you split with someone else), you are bound to get 4-6 rares. So everyone gets about 61 - 63 cards.

Future rounds you could give one pack of JP first game, CC second game, JP third game. You could also allow all the sites to be related for gameplay ease. IE cc sites are CC sites, but you can move from CC to the adjacent JP site, etc.
