Congrats to Kevin Shannon!!!

I always knew you could do it. People on the street would ask me about you and I would tell them "He's from California so you know he's wierd, but darn it he could be a SWCCG World Champion one day."

Congrats via the forums Kevin. :) I'm so proud of you.

PB, Kevin won the Text MPC, Tatooine Regionals and West Nationals this year as well. If he isn't Player of the Year, that award is a joke.

kevin's won a lot this year. only person that can really compete with him for player of the year is maybe justin desai, but i think shannon wins that.

both won an mpc (desai's is weighted more i guess)
desai won 2 ridic regionals, so he has the advantage there
desai got 2nd at east nats, shannon won west nats
but shannon winning worlds really tips it over to his side

That's true, I'd forgotten about Justin's regionals wins. It'll be a close one!

kyle's tournament report will start out like this:

"without mike french, i would not have made day 3 of worlds."

=)

Kevin has been playing this game almost as long as I have, and has been one of the top players in California since before his service in the Marines. He won the San Diego ComicCon in 2000 (when I was the defending champ...he beat me in game 6, and got to play, and thrash, James Lafferty in the final. He got 4th in worlds that year. Then in 2001 we played in Girards Mega Slam in Arizona....once again, I got 3rd in the main event, while he went on to beat Brian Hunter (don't you know who he is?) in the final. As a side note, Hunter and Kevin also played in the preliminary final and the Sunday final that weekend, with Brian winning both of those. Then Kevin went to serve our country for a few years. That would be why a lot of the newer players may not have heard of him.

I have to say, I am so proud of you Bud. Everyone out here in Cali knew it would only be a matter of time before you won the big one.

Congrats to Kevin! He played two great games against me in Day 3. Really classy guy too - he even gave me a slice of pizza between games. Well deserved title for a longtime player of the game

Thanks Chu! And it was a very "special" slice. You might want to stay near a bathroom for the rest of the week.
