Worlds Love Thread...

Post by Jeeps »

This thread is for posting only love for Worlds 2008.

I would love to show some love to a few people Wink

First Twin City Comics and Jay, its crazy owner. He'll never see this, but Worlds would have taken place if it weren't for the space.

Next to Chris Schoenthal, our TD. He ran all three days worth of events and really maintained a very kind and pleasant composure through ALL of it. Great job. You deserve a special award.

Second to the helpers- Garrett Larson for organizing it, and Nick Kolnik and Dan Albright for assisting Chris in deck checks, making pairings, and making sure things went smoothly and quickly.

Additionally, to all the players who showed up... some 80 plus people participated in the entire Worlds experience. The best turn out in years... and I think that kind of dedication makes a statement.

Thanks to Michael Raveling, Brady Moore, and Garrett Larson for hosting many players.

I'd like to give a little love to some individuals for being neat people:

Blake Huffmann
Bobby Hillbun
Allen Gaible
Michael Raveling
Garrett Larson
Brady Moore
Tom Frafjord
Peter Frafjord
Mark Peterson
Scott Lingrell
Noah Franke
Jim Li
Scott Church
Alden Peterson
Josh Grace (playtesting).
Michael Richards
James (texas guy)
Greg Shaw
Bill Kafer
Brian Hunter
Joe Olson

I am leaving out many others... I'll add to this list when names pop into my head.

Thanks again for the great weekend. I hope 2009 Worlds is just as successful wherever it may be...

My love list.

Peter Jacobson, Mike Raveling, Brady Moore, Mark Peterson and Josh Grace for the playtesting help.

Everyone who made day 3.

Tom Frafjord for the 8-0 that was damn impressive

Chris for running a bunch of this at once and doing them all great.

El Mundo.

The Brothers French and their crew, kept things light and fun.

Kevin Shannon for Winning the whole thing, hell of a job.

The MN players, we had about 10 people in Day 2, 3 in Day 3 plus I think another person or 2 who went 5-3. newsflash it ain't just me Raveling and a bunch of 8th graders here playing.

Everyone I talked to over the weekend, and everyone I played. No bad games, everyone had a good attitude, we were there to compete and win, but not at the expense of being jerks about it.

If I come up with more I'll add them.

My (friendly) trash talking to garrett and raveling prior to the tournament might need to be re-evaluated given the results of the weekend :-(

That's OK Jim, every state has a B team, there's no shame in second best :)

Too bad you had to Drag Tom F down with you on the team tournament though:)

HUGE props to Nick and Dan- the weekend would not have run nearly as smoothly without them. Nick was invaluable doing the pairings and coming up with awesome ideas to help make the tournament run more efficiently (table numbers were his idea, but I'm definitely filing it away for next year). Dan was great too- he did all the deck checks all weekend, and his eyes weren't bleeding by the end :D Thanks a lot to both of you!

Love: crossing Tom's luke with BHBM twice, once for a giant mug and a repeat of the team world champions

Hate: blowing up TWO death star II's and losing BOTH games because I got the guys down to 1 and 2 and couldn't do another point of damage.

also forced servitude with 25 droids > ebo

Mike I really felt for you at the end of our game, having that happen twice sucks.

Worlds was awesome.

Props to
Buddy, Chris, Jesse, Steve. Good times.
Tom Frafjord. 8-0 is ridiculous.
Everyone that assured me I was in Day 3 after I lost the last three games but they hadn't announced top 8 yet.
Everyone I chatted with while I waited for Kevin Shannon to beat his opponent.

Mad props to
Kevin Shannon. I've played more tournament games against you this year than anyone else. Every one of them was a blast.
Ryan French, Joe Olson, Phil Aassen (even though he didn't make it to MN). The finish belongs to the team. If it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't even keep playing.

Slops
Mike French. He's just a jerk.

Props:

Kyle Krueger for doing an amazing job making top 2. Nice decks and a great game we played during day 2.

Mike Gemme for another amazing game on day 2, for blowing up two death star II's and for turning luke twice all in the same weekend.

Tom Hollingworth for playtesting, sharing the clones deck and for finishing top 2 in the consolation. You played real well all weekend.

Casey Anis for breaking religious boundaries and playing in SWCCG tournaments on Saturdays, and making it out to worlds.

Jonathan Murray for hanging out, and helping me finish up my decklists.

The police officer for wanting to learn how to play SWCCG.

Brad Eier for dominating Buffalo Wild Wings challenges.

Fantastic games with all of my opponents, including great games with Chris Fanchi, Aaron Nelson, Michael Richards and Brian Herold. And the amazing game against profit in the consolation against...I think Blake Huffman? Sorry that I forget your name.

The store owner for being cool.

You Are Beaten.

Hunter, Fred, Jonny, Booker, Eier, Baroni, Desai, Lingrell, Shaw and Kafer for old times sake.

Slops:

The flies in the store

How cramped the store was

Me for picking bad light decks

Much love and/or props to:

Aaron Groth for being an awesome friend, and driving to worlds even after CT bailed on us. You rock dude!

Brady for providing a place for all of us to stay, and putting up with Hunter for the weekend. I bet that guy never paid you, did he? ;)

Eier and Booker for being awesome friends, and great players. Maybe if we team up again, we will have to come up with an official team name. Just talk me out of playing bad dark decks I come up with in the car next time. The biggest props ever to Eier for blowing out the B-Dubs blazing sauce challenge!

Mike Gemme, Chubacca, and Baroni for being awesome, as always. You guys rock.

Kevin Shannon for being a hell of a guy, and the big win. Congrats man, you deserved it.

Schoe for being a stand up guy as always, and giving up his worlds seat to run the event for all of us. You are the man dude.

Tom Frafjord for going 8-0. I think that was a 1st for worlds, and a very impressive feet.

Shaw and Kafer for being awesome. I heart you guys, except when you are destroying me. :(

Also gotta give mad love and respect to all of my boys that I got to hang out with and shoot the * with all weekend. It is a big part of what keeps me coming back. In no order:

Scott Church
Michael Raveling (I miss you too) ;)
Brian (you might be shady, but you are still an ok dude) Hunter
Pistone (you are one of the angriest dudes I know... online!) ;)
Tom Hollingsworth
Fanchi (you are pretty much fuzzy # 2, but you are ok in my book)
Michael Richards
Jim Li (you smoke a lot man, you shoulda used your ability to freeze time to help you win games) :-p
Dan TARTAG
The Hooky (you crack me up big time dude, better bring that jug o water next year)
Justin Desai (you are pretty ok when you aren't talking * about people behind their back)
Lingrell (we never got to have that talk, quit errating cards you homo!) :)
French/French (you guys rock, hope to see you again)
Kyle Krueger (very impressive showing dude, looks like I was right when I said you were auto in after 5 games) ;)
Garret Larson (nice showing dude, maybe we should join the WWE as a tag team!)
The Pilfin (best nickname ever)
Dave and Matt (always good to see you guys)

Anyone else I am forgetting, I apologize. Make sure you yell at me good.

Slops:

CT for bailing at the very last minute. You coulda came if you really wanted to. *!

Minnesota for being a hell of far drive from Indianapolis. You guys better show up next year when worlds is back in Indy.

Justin Desai for talking * about people behind their back. I hate hearing from people after every event that you were sayign stuff about me when I wasn't around.

Brian Hunter for being the Jabba the Hut of his keeper league.

Fanchi for being the Bib Fortuna of Hunter's keeper league.

Fuzzy for being the Rancor of Hunter's keeper league.

Pistone for not "IM TAKING IT BACK!" once the entire weekend

Applebee's for being a real * restraunt.

I am sure I forgot some stuff here also, but whatever. I had a blast even though I scrubbed out, and am already looking forward to next year. Hope to see everyone again!
