SWCCG Worlds Day 3 Standings History

Post by Jnapolit31 »

EDITS -
3rd Round of updates put through 6/4 - special thanks to Justin, Bastian & Casey. This has really taken form now. Still please let me know if anything looks off.
2nd round of Updates per Bastian's feedback on 6/3. I italicized the finishes that are entirely uncertain - these are usually players without multiple appearances the big picture takeaways are not impacted.
Updating visual below based on feedback through 6/2.
Added additional table.

Notes -
1. Points System: I came up with an arbitrary points system to attempt to quantify the quality of Top 8's: 8 for 1st, 6 for 2nd, 4 for 3rd-4th, 2 for 5th-8th, 1 for 9-12th. Open to others' thoughts on this.

ORIGINAL POST -
I put together the below visual a while back while traveling for work and out of boredom/curiosity.
I leveraged historical Forum posts - I don't think something like this already exists, but could be wrong.
Perhaps others may find this interesting as well.
Note the color coding is intended to make it easier to see those who finished in the top 8 2+ years.
If anyone believes any of the below to be incorrect, let me know.

And then there are other people who walk out literally saying that was the worst movie I've ever seen. Having those two extremes to me is the mark of the type of movie that I want to make.

For Worlds 2002, Clint Hays is wrong, it was Hayes Hunter in the top 8 (who lost to Brian Twigg in the first round).

For Worlds 1997, it was
1. Philipp Jacobs, germany
2. Michael Riboulet, UK
7. Bastian Winkelhaus
8. Rainer Zetsche, germany
10. Michael Krause, germany
11. and 12. Yannick Lapointe and Raphael Asselin (dunno the order)

The remaining top 12 players were Enrique Pascal (Spain, I think in 6th place), Gavin Palmer, Thadeus Chenoweth (sp), Joe Alread, Paul Feldman (all US, order I dont know).

I think 2001 was like this.

Martin Akesson vs Brad Reinhold Martin advances Martin wins with LSC (I think)
Hayes Hunter vs Scott Lingrell Hayes advances Hayes wins with HD vs Scott's RST racing (I think)
Bastian Winklehaus vs Kevin Shannon Bastian advances Bastian wins with QMC vs MKOS (I think)
Brian Hunter vs Andy McClure Brian advances Brian wins with forget LS but I'm pretty sure Andy played MKOS

Martin Akesson vs Hayes Hunter Martin wins with LSC vs Hayes HD
Bastian Winklehaus vs Brian Hunter Bastian wins with QMC vs Deal

Martin Akesson vs Bastian Winklehaus Bastian wins both games (QMC vs All your base and All your base vs LSC)

Thanks, everyone, for feedback, especially Yoshi who appears to have provided, via Casey, what I was also looking to construct.

I'll update the OP soon and then maybe this can be put in one handy place for people's curiosities of SWCCG Worlds History.

You entered the specifics from 1997 into 1998 unfortunately.
In 1998 I wasn't there, maybe Hayes can add infos as he was there, as a minor. I remember that one german made it to the top 12 and I think it was Dominik Probst, but no clue which place he ended up in.

In 1999 I am very sure that Martin Akesson made the top 12 (he and a fellow german wanted to arrange a true tie thanks to losing their last life force to Visage simultaneously but the german had to lose first so Martin won the game and got in) and I do remember that Paul Todd Feldman and I made it and I think I ended up in 10th place and Feldman either 11th or 12th (I won my only game of the top 12 against him, the last one).

Also I found this site for more details on 1996 till 1999: https://web.archive.org/web/20050517110 ... wf00p2.htm

I have no doubt that this is accurate and it confirms everything I said about 1997, but with details about the americans standings too.

That link had some really interesting information about SWCCG 1996-1999. Thanks for finding/linking.

This should fill in your '99 gaps:
https://web.archive.org/web/20020207172 ... rld99e.htm

Only 2004 left?

It frustrates me that this site purges forum info, when database storage is so cheap. Continues to this day. Likely in a decade we'll wonder who made the top 8 in 2019.

I think don't do 1 for 9-12 except when it was top 12.

Also, in 2003 they actually played a 3/4 match... for that year only you should give 4th place only 3 points or 3r place 5 points..

Other than that, that point system is sweet and I think this whole thing is awesome, I've always wanted to do something like this but always felt it was too self serving.

Agreed. I get why it might have been done previously with old software and storage not so cheap. In 2020 though, this shouldn't be a problem. I don't think Slack purges stuff iirc. If slack doesn't, then I don't see why the forums.

Slack doesn't cause we got the full thing free cause a nonprofit. Otherwise we'd only be able to see the last few weeks.

Regardless, it's a forum setting that I've felt for years needs to change. But the person that makes the decision doesn't agree, or at least hasn't in the past multiple times.
