Open GEMP Tournament on Saturday, November 21st

Post by CoffeePass »

When: Saturday November 21st at 11:00am EST

Format: Six rounds of Open swiss.* Players are free to change decks however much they like. If at the end of six rounds multiple players have the best record, we will cut to a Final Confrontation (with SOS as a tie breaker to identify Top 2 if needed). Four rounds; only cut to Final Confrontation if exactly two players have the same top record (two 4-0s or two 3-1s). 40 minute GEMP player time clocks.

Entry Fee: $10

Prizes: All participants will receive a foil Rock.

Cash break down as follows:
  • If one 4-0: all the 3-1s get their $10 back and the 4-0 gets the rest
  • If two 3-1s or two 4-0s: Final Confrontation. 70% to first, 30% to second. (if the two players want to agree to a separate split that is fine)
  • If three or more 3-1s: even split (is it it even mathematically possible for us to have three 3-1s without a 4-0? We'll find out!)
  • If no 3-1s: none of us deserve anything, money goes to a charity
How to Enter: Please PayPal me $10: drewlich217@gmail.com -- please include your name and GEMP username, and be sure to pay me as a friend so PayPal doesn't take a cut.

The prize: is this a GEMP foil, or real life foil?

An actual IRL foil**

Yup, actual-in-the-mail foil -- didn't think about GEMP foils, but I am sure we can at least set it up as a league so we can get some GEMP foil prizes.

What's the cut off for registration. I feel like my life is chaos right now, but I might be interested in playing.

I thought Drew was just going to mail everyone rocks as a physical AI to throw at your opponent.

Okay, I'm still not 100%, but I did use this tournament as an excuse to avoid meeting my sister in law's new boyfriend.

Update: we are at 6 players. Happy to have sign-ups up until 10:50am tomorrow. Also, I think if we get less than 10 players we should stick to four rounds (since I know some people might be fence sitting because of the extra three hours). Here is the updated prize payout plan for 6-10 players:
  • If one 4-0: all the 3-1s get their $10 back and the 4-0 gets the rest
  • If two 3-1s: Final Confrontation. 70% to first, 30% to second (if the two players want to agree to a separate split that is fine)
  • If three or more 3-1s: even split (is it it even mathematically possible for us to have three 3-1s? We'll find out!)
  • If no 3-1s: none of us deserve anything, money goes to the PC
And of course and most importantly: foil Rocks for all.

Last minute question: changing decks between games? I assume we shouldn't but it's also only 2 games per side so it hardly matters.

Changing decks is totally fine and was one of the original ideas behind this: you can play different decks to test for Worlds.
