Tournament or Cube in MA?
Tournament or Cube in MA?
Is there any interest in playing in a tournament or playing power cube in Massachusetts if I set up an event? I can assemble a cube if people want to play.

Yes, I would be interested. Coming from Connecticut, so Western MA is better. There's apparently a group in Worcester that's pretty active, though you might actually be part of that group...

Re: Tournament or Cube in MA?
We haven't had a Worcester tournament in a few months. WTF is cube?
Re: Tournament or Cube in MA?
Erik,
We should talk. Is the Worcester store available for me to run something?
I think the Cube would be a good way for new/returning players to get acquainted with some virtual cards.
Here's some information about the cube:
http://www.starwarsccg.org/index.php?op ... 30&t=22108
And if you look here, you can see a list of the cards included in the cube:
http://www.starwarsccg.org/index.php?op ... 30&t=47345
I can assemble one if there is some interest

Sounds interresting. I'm in if there's a date that works, and as long as there's none of that virtual card jazz. As far as booking That's Entertainment there used to be a guy on here you can try contacting whose username was heytherejeffro and I believe he works there. If not you could message Nick Kennedy (nrk100) who ran most of the tournaments there and he might have some info, or just contact the store directly.

Erik, I think you guys should try the cube once. It uses some virtual cards but it's basically a sealed deck experience. I remember you from my first couple tournaments back in 2005/2006 and virtual cards today are nothing like the crap they were back then, they've been completely overhauled. Try playing with a few of them.

Re: Tournament or Cube in MA?
I did play v-cards at last year's States. Even after studying all the new cards and building decks for two months prior I was still only able to win 2 games out of 6 at the tournament. Granted the cards are better now than they were back during the 2005 ridiculousness, but at the end of the day I still much prefer the Classic experience over the v-cards by a long shot. I guess that's just my style.
That being said I'm still willing to try this Cube thing. The v-cards seem like they might make sense in a sealed deck setting. Anything to get some gaming in at this point.

I think the cube will be a nice, gentle introduction to v-cards. I'm going to assemble one and see what we can do about putting an event together.
I recently reached out to Paul Maholick and he said he'll think about giving the cube a shot too. Erik, it would be a great help if you could reach out to some of your player group (Rick G. etc.) and let them know about it.

i would also prefer the old way of playing long before "V-cards". but i would also be willing to try the cubed played that you speak of. as things hopefully start rolling with this thing. maybe we could see how many people want to do the old way also. maybe we can do both some how.

I spoke to Rick G. I'm guessing me and him would go as long as the date and time works. I know Mike Hawley is on the forums as rayc so you could probably send him a pm as well. I think I also have some of the Springfield players on my Facebook i'll see what they're up to.

I'm down for cube, but we could also consider the EPP sealed deck tournament that the store has for $65 for up to 24 players:
http://www.starwarsccg.org/index.php?op ... Itemid=124
There's really nothing that says we couldn't do both.

Re: Tournament or Cube in MA?
I'd be interested, I think there are 4 or 5 others from my group that would probably entertain the idea. There's a card shop locally here (AJ's gaming, in chicopee) that probably could host.

Re: Tournament or Cube in MA?
You should set that up for another event, doing both in one day probably isn't feasible timewise.GunganStyle wrote:I'm down for cube, but we could also consider the EPP sealed deck tournament that the store has for $65 for up to 24 players:

It seems like there's enough interest, so I'll assemble the cube and find a venue.

I talked to the owner of AJ's gaming and he said that if we wanted to use AJ's as a venue we could set something up. Let me know if you'd like that, mr. pistone.

Re: Tournament or Cube in MA?
I really appreciate that...I'm going to check in on Worcester first though because there's already a group of players who play there and I want to maximize turnout initially.

Keep me posted on any dates. If I am free, I could bring 3 or 4 out for an event.
