Waiters who offer water as though they're all free. Sparkling ($), still ($) and tap (free). Fool me once... But living in the city, you tend to only get burned once.

In Rome... Replace "water" with "bread".

It's a "coperto" or service charge, you're not really paying for bread, you're paying for the service staff to have a living wage because you don't have to tip.

Also me, but this is a rare fool you once shame on you occasion. You should know that sealed bottled water you're getting is chargeable.

Thought the tip thing was because of the relatively healthy compensation for wait staff? Also, how is this done in Gelato shops or pizza joints?

The healthy compensation is partly because everybody is charged a small amount "for bread".

I'm guessing it works as at gelaterias and pizzerias because there's a line out the door and they don't have to wait on you. I've definitely seen pizzerias with a coperto.

Having to look up internet paraphrases such as Tl;dr and Tfw. Pretty sure there's plenty more, but those are the recent ones.

When an acronym is used to spell something seemingly clever, but it's pretty obvious they started with the acronym in mind and then had to figure out words that fit to make it sound good enough. Happens regularly with government legislation.
(Examples: SMART Act -> "Strengthening Medicare and Repaying Taxpayers" Act, "Simplified, Manageable, And Responsible Tax" Act, or "Social Media Addiction Reduction Technology" Act)

The term e-sports. They aren't athletes, video games aren't a sport (neither is NASCAR). But stop hijacking the term sports for your own nefarious nerd ends. If I can beat up the top e-sports participants, you aren't involved in 'sports'. (they don't call these people athletes do they?)

The comparison to sports is very fitting when you consider the revenue system:

-You search far and wide for the very best of the best and have them compete against each other
-Fans are interested in watching tournaments of the very best competitors
-Because there are lots of fans watching, the tournament is able to sell advertising space (commercials, physical ad props at the event, and more)
-The revenue from the advertisers pays out prize money. Big prizes are used to lure the very best of the best to come compete, completing the cycle

That's the bare bones of it but the economic similarities continue. The best players get endorsement deals, fans buy tickets and merchandise, and if the game's popularity grows enough, the players can actually get salaries with bonuses instead of relying solely on prizes. Teams form (even in 1v1 games) that represent and pay players and sell their own merch. They even do trades, free agencies, etc.

But no, nobody calls them athletes.

Extreme feelings about feet. I don't understand being insanely attracted to feet, nor disgusted by them.
