People who say "not gonna lie" and then state something that no one would ever lie about.

"Not gonna lie, I really enjoy ice cream"
Ross Geller begs to differ.
Had to look up. What is the context of Ross from Friends? Was this a bit in the show?

Yeah there's an episode where Chandler doesn't like dogs, and he tells people he's allergic and at one point he accidentally spills it's like how Ross doesn't like ice cream (but doesn't tell people because he doesn't want to get ostracized), and they're like "you don't like ice cream??"

And he says loudly "It's too cold!" then (quietly) "hurts my teeth."

It was an example about someone lying about how they like ice cream. :)

It's funny because it's so absurd! Ice Cream #1 (despite Neopolitan's attempts to tarnish its reputation)

Anytime a show/movie preview shows a person in a confession booth saying "bless me father for I have sinned". Hack

This is surprisingly common, now that you mention it. Weird.

You do realize that this is actually taught by the Catholic church, right? "Bless me Father for I have sinned, it has been [time] since my last confession"

So you're saying it's on topic? Or his pet peeve is just with the Catholic church?

It sounded more like he was calling the writer a hack (for using some trope) to me.

If you are putting it in a preview, you are trying to generate interest in finding out what sin a character committed.

absolutely correct. It's hacky and lazy. I have no issues with the act of confession.

Let me give you a more common trope...any movie where the male/female leads are back to back and looking over their shoulder automatically sucks.

Oh, it's the use of it as an interest piquer in a trailer that annoys you, not the use of the phrase. I also read it as you being annoyed with people just copying the same dialogue or something.

Correct. I hate the trope of the confession booth as a crutch to add intrigue.

Weird, because I eat this trope up. I like it a lot.

Hating on it might be irrational though, which is the point.

I agree with the sentiment, though. I have no specific problem with that action itself, but I would agree that a movie that uses that is almost guaranteed to be bad.

Really? You need to get some good beer cheese soup then, it's bomb. At one of our local breweries, it's the only item I order.
Would rather eat the arm of a leper than beer cheese. Can't even go to a restaurant that serves it, since the smell is so revolting to me.
What is beer cheese? Hot beer used to melt cheese?
There are cheeses that are made with beer but "beer cheese soup" is a soup with both beer and cheese, not a soup made with specifically a beer-based cheese.

Love me some Lacroix and other sparkling flavored waters, but need more info on the 'natural essence' ingredient. Probably going to cause cancer.

Non Italian cheese names that aren't Italian bother me. Cheddar (gross), havarti (gross), Muenster (gag).

So... are you saying you don't like any cheese unless it is Italian and has an Italian name?
