CORUSCANT LEAGUE 2020 (NY/NJ/PA, Gemp)

Post by Jnapolit31 »

Strongly suggest all those playing in or interested in playing in any of the league events to Subscribe Topic for this post - it will be primary means of communicating for the league

Hey guys,

Let’s do a geographic League for 2020! Given the pandemic, this will be all online on Gemp. Hopefully if/when it becomes safer, a fresh league for the calendar year 2021 can be held with live events, utilizing a new league kit prize package.

2020 Coruscant League (NY/NJ/PA)

First off, as Chris Kelly says, let’s have FUN. There will be some “stakes”, given the league kit, but I thought this would be a good opportunity to connect with our regional playgroup and stay active as the OCS tapers off. Requirement for full-season participation would be playing ~1 game a week on Gemp for ~5 months. For each monthly event, it'd be 1 game a week across a calendar month. Life happens, so worst case scenario, someone forfeits a game if a scheduling conflict emerges, or we allow an extra day or two for a game. If some months have an odd number of registrants, a Bye week may happen to lessen the ask of playing 1 game every single week.

Details:
Prizes: Will use the 2019-2020 League Kit for prizes
# of Events: 5 events - all online, spanning September - January
Format: Swiss - 3 Open format, 1 Jawa format, UPDATE: 1 OCS-style format; will use Tournament Software and players will play via a Gemp league by scheduling (hopefully less of an issue than the Jawa Cup/GEMPC since we mostly know each other well and don’t have time zone complications)
The "default timeframe" each week to play games will be Tuesdays at 9pm - the weekly games don't HAVE to happen at this time, but let's allow this to act as an initial, targeted time for matchups to take place.
Scoring: SOS
League registration: $5 flat fee to me via PayPal/Venmo (I bought the kit, which was $50), whether you play in 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 events. If > 10 players register, will split and transfer excess to league winner and 1 random league participant for PC Store credit. **Update: Given 15 people registered, $20 PC store credit will go to the league winner and $20 will go to a random league participant with perfect attendance.**
League points: Points are awarded based on attendance and placement, in the following manner: in an event with 10 people, first place earns 10 points, second place earns 9 points. And so on, with last place earning 1 point.
Deck selection: May not change between games within each 4-game event (unless specified at the start of the Event), but let’s do honor system here. We’re all friends, we want to just have fun playing SW - don’t tweak/change your decks. It’s frankly not worth the logistical hassle to ensure decks aren’t changed for the one opportunity (for each side) within each event.
Allowed registrants: Anyone who lives in NJ, NY, PA or has frequented our events previously (e.g., Taco Bill). NARP’s welcome. I don’t want the league to be too large as it would make each round likely take longer (and there's only so much prize support), but hopefully we get at least 8 for each of the 5 events.

FAQ’s:
Spoiler
Show
Q: How do I register for each event/whole league?
A: Respond to this forum post saying which events you’d like to participate in. Or contact me, Jared Napolitano, on Slack (JaredNap) or PM on forums (Jnapolit31). Registration for each event can be changed up to the cut off dates listed above, so if plans change, not a big deal.
Q: How will I receive my prizes?
A: At the conclusion of the 5 events, if pandemic lockdown is still live ( :( ), I will package and ship everyone’s owed items. If not, it’d be easier to deliver all prizes at live events for the 2021 league.
Q: How will league be set up in Gemp?
A: I will either request the “+” capability to set up the league, or hopefully batmouse, gogolen or quickdraw will set them up on my behalf.
Q: Can I spectate/scout other leagues games?
A: Please don't do this *for games 1 and 2 of each 4-game event*. I'm not going to police this nor disqualify a league member who is found to be spectating another league game, but I'll politely request this isn't done. Players will inevitably see the deck matchups from the lobby, similar to how you may see other games from afar in a live event, but let's keep it at that.

Looks like there are 10 signed up now so wouldn’t matter at this point, but I’d play in the September event if needed to avoid byes knowing Its likely I may have to drop a game based on scheduling.

Matt, you're good for event #1.

@ Everyone - cut off for Event #1 (Jawa!) is one week from today. See the anticipated list of 12 players above - if your plans to play or not play have changed, be sure to let me know by 6:00pm Eastern on Sunday 8/30. I will post the first game's matchups shortly thereafter, to be played 8/31-9/6.

Bumping the below guys since thought they might be interested, but haven't heard from:

Its Jawa format, so you don't have to deal with the boring ones. CCT, TTO, ASM, BHBM, EOps, Senate, and Dark Deal all in play

I'm against that... will spare my full reasoning for now, but I'd rather just stick to "official Jawa" format for this 4-game September event.

Also is this just like a gemp league where we get on and play or do we get assigned pairings and work out the games?
