Instructions for Getting to the Hotel

Post by spideyguy0 »

Below are directions from various mass transit points. If anyone is coming from someplace I didn't mention (flying into Providence for example), just let me know and I'll write something up.

FROM BOSTON LOGAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BOS)

By subway:
Exit the terminal on the arrival level and look for signs for the shuttle bus to the MBTA Blue Line stop. The bus you’re looking for will be a “Massport” shuttle bus and lines 22, 33, and 55 serve the MBTA station. The bus is free and depending on which terminal you’re coming from, the ride will be between 1 and 5 minutes.

Upon arrival at the MBTA Blue Line station, cross over to the “inbound” platform and take the train 4 stops to Government Center. When you arrive, go upstairs to the Green Line platform and wait on the Westbound platform for a “D” train (also known as a “Riverside” train). Take the D train 15 stops to Newton Highlands. The train costs $2.50 total (you only have to pay once for both trains).

When you arrive at Newton Highlands you will have several options. There are almost always taxi cabs at the station and it will be no more than a $6 or $7 cab ride from the station to the hotel. Alternatively, the hotel has a free shuttle that can pick you up from the station, but you should probably call in advance to avoid waiting for a long time. If you’re going to call the shuttle, place the call when the train arrives at Chestnut Hill (2 stops before Newton Highlands). This way you’ll still beat the shuttle to the station but you shouldn’t have to wait too long. The 3rd option is to have someone at the tournament with a car pick you up from Newton Highlands. Depending on when I arrive I’ll do my best to try to shuttle people on Friday. It’s a 5 minute drive or less from the station to the hotel.

By taxi:
A taxi from the airport to the hotel will likely run you about $80.

FROM SOUTH STATION (Buses and Amtrak)

From the main waiting area, follow the signs downstairs to the MBTA Red Line station and wait on the inbound platform. Take any inbound train 2 stops to Park Street. Go upstairs to the Southbound Green Line platform and wait for a “D” train (also known as a “Riverside” train). Different trains stop in different places along the Westbound platform. D trains typically stop at the very front of the Westbound platform, on the right hand side. Take the D train 14 stops to Newton Highlands. The train costs $2.50 total (you only have to pay once for both trains). Once there, follow the steps in the above instructions for Logan Airport.

FROM ROUTE 128 (alternative Amtrak)

If you don’t mind a $40 cab ride (or if you have someone with a car to pick you up), taking an Amtrak train to the Route 128 station instead of South Station will likely save you about an hour of travel time. It’s about a 15 minute drive up the highway from Route 128 to the hotel.

I got a few questions.

I will arrive 21:40 tomorrow, are the trains still running then? I assume yes but its better to ask.

How long does the train trip take?

And when does the hotel bar close?

I don't know the first two. But I called the hotel and the answer is that the bar is open 1200 until 0000 with last call at 2330.
Well, Bye.

Yes, trains are still running then and the trip will take between 75 and 90 minutes most likely.

Thanks. Then I guess the bar is out but on the other hand the time difference is a killer anyway so it might be good.

Most people buy their own beer and bring it to the hotel, and don't rely on the bar being open to drink.

Are there any 7/11s close to the hotel for buying drinks and stuff?

@ Emil,
I will arrive Thursday around 4 pm. My plane lands at 3, so I assume it'll take me an hour.

See you soon.

7/11s and grocery stores in Massachusetts don't actually sell alcohol, but there's a liquor store right down the road from the hotel (in between the hotel and the train station).

Not to mention the hotel bar is earily 3-4 times more expensive as a liquor store.

At Worlds in DC Shaw and I made the mistake of ordering 2 shots of Absolut from the hotel bar to try and change our luck after a couple early losses- $22.50

Considering you can buy a 750 ml bottle of Absolut for about $20, that's one heck of a markup.
