Just out of curiosity... how many US events with 20+ players have there been in the past couple of years?

You can easily deal with the Minnesota factor if you decide you're going to count minors as half a person.

MPC, Texas, Nationals, San Diego and Worlds all consistently get over 20 players each year (with the exception of the Nationals held in Vegas which was a bust)

The MPC has had at least 64 players for at least 4 years now, and Worlds usually gets around 55 players each year. The other events average approximately 25 players.

On top of that, there are a few Regionals each year that will get 20 players to attend, usually by combining the Regional event on Saturday with the State Championship on Sunday to create a "Super Weekend" that encourages people to drive 3-4 hours and stay over for the following day. This doesn't always happen, but Bespin definitely accomplishes this each year(thanks to Walseth's after school program), and sometimes Yavin 4, Coruscant, and Alderaan will get around 20 players for their Regional events.

Thanks for the info.

Why is the Bespin event not in the upcoming events to maybe make it even bigger?
I mean, why is San Diego or Texas mini more important than Minnesota?

Not trying to start any trouble here. I'm just wondering.

because it's "just" a regional.

if we went to the effort of running a "major" tournament in minnesota every year, we could probably get it listed, but we've never really felt like doing it.

Since Heir Menzel asked for the full list. There are a few events that I think are missing from the PC site archives(specifically Nationals- Kingery won in 2006, but I couldn't find results from 2007-2009). The PC site archives don't go back further than 2006, although we do have a full list of the World Champions. However I am only using results from the PC site to compile this list.

2006:
US Nationals- Kingery
Worlds- Meeker
Europeans- Winklehaus

2007:
MPC- Smith
Worlds- Chu
Europeans- Kreidl
East Nats- Desai
West Nats- Hunter

2008:
MPC- Desai
Texas- Shannon
Worlds- Shannon
Europeans- Kreidl
East Nats- Westergard

2009:
MPC- Lewis
Texas- Shannon
West Nats- Nelson
Worlds- Hunter
Europeans- Kreidl

2010:
MPC- Shannon
Texas- Shannon
West Nats- Shannon
Worlds- Kim
Europeans- Menzel
SoCal- Chu

2011:
MPC- Hollingworth
Texas- Shannon
Nats- Anderson
Worlds- Shannon
SoCal- Nelson
Europeans- Destefanis

2012:
MPC- Baroni
Texas- Richards
Nationals- Nelson
NA Continentals- Shannon
Europeans- Wallin
Worlds- Wallin
SoCal- Harrison-Trainor

2013:
MPC- Baroni
Texas- Shaw
Nationals- Smith
Worlds- Desai
Europeans- Emil
SoCal- Shannon

2014:
MPC- Shannon.

Running total since 2006:

Kevin Shannon- 11 wins

3 wins:
Aaron Nelson
Nico Kreidl
Emil Wallin
Justin Desai

2 wins:

Jon Chu
Reid Smith
Steve Baroni
Brian Hunter

1 win:
Aaron Kingery
Nate Meeker
Stephen Lewis
Dan Kim
Chris Menzel
David Destefanis
Tom Hollingworth
John Anderson
Mike Richards
Matt Harrison-Trainor
Greg Shaw
Bastian Winklehaus
Jan Westergard

I was National Champion in 2007, which Desai would be able to verify. I think Eric Hunter won a Nationals event (or at least an East Nationals event) sometime after that. Not sure exactly which year though.

I think Kevin & Aaron split the title at the 1st San Diego event in '09, although there were only around 16 people there. Aaron beat me in the semis, and I'm pretty sure he met Kevin in the final and they didn't play it.

Speaking of Desai. Since Desai is now world champ, Angelo is the new Desai. ;)

Angelo was 2nd in at least 4 main events since 2006.

Europeans 2007 and 2011, Worlds 2012 and I believe Nationals lat year.

Thanks for the list, Mr. Gogolen. That's always interesting.

Angelo has "2002 World Champion" and 2013 "Hall of Fame Inductee" next to his name. He is never forgotten :)

Eric won Nationals at GenCon, but that was back in 2002 (Wokling v). Pretty Don't think he played much more past that.

lol, in 2007 there was a west nationals and an east nationals. I won the east one and hunter the west. we played in like rnd 7 of worlds that year and we joked that the winner of that game was the 2007 national champion. he won and hense the post...

...HOWEVER, the next day brian hunter lost to brian fred, which no true national champion would ever do so i sense some fishiness to his story.

also jan won nationals in 2008 (the east one at least).

Any idea about the attendance of each of those events? All I really care about is whether they got over 20+ people

He played Kashyyyk Regionals in 2008. He and I both crashed at Gemme's house. I think he may have played in a few other events around that time but not sure.

Origins was '09, at least according to my "Origins 2009" die that I still have. That's the one where Kevin had to crutch himself like two miles from the car or whatever.
