SWCCG Booster box population - numbers produced?

Post by muttzen »

Hi all.

Does anyone have a rough idea of how many booster boxes of each release was produced? I thought it would be fun to know what was out there to begin with, could be interesting to a lot of folks. The serial numbers on the boosters presumably should give some hint as to the numbers produced. This may be harder for the earlier expansions where the number is not printed on the bottom.

An initial guess:
Premiere Ltd. - 750k? (613,XXX - ConnorPsh, 463,XXX - AdmiralMotti89, 340XXX - muttzen)
Premiere - Unltd. - ? (442,XXX - mingtown, 405,XXX - scottrick49)
ANH Ltd. - 750k?
ANH Rev. - ?
Hoth Ltd. - 750k? (714,XXX - AdmiralMotti89, 126,XXX -ConnorPsh)
Hoth Rev. - ? (21,XXX - wscii712)
Dagobah - 300k? (285,XXX - AdmiralMotti89, 275,XXX - ConnorPsh)
Dag Rev. - ?
Cloud City - 300k? (211,XXX - AdmiralMotti89, 112,XXX - scottrick49)
Jabba's Palace 300k? (211,XXX - AdmiralMotti89, 143,XXX - wscii712)
Special edition 300k? (268,XXX - AdmiralMotti89, 166,XXX - AdmiralMotti89)
Reflections I - 40k? (33,XXX - muttzen, 22,XXX - AdmiralMotti89)
Endor - 100k? (91,XXX - ponda, 74,XXX - https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Star-Wars ... 7675.l2557)

Death Star II - 75k? (70,XXX - muttzen, 44,XXX - AdmiralMotti89)
Reflections II - 40k? (36,XXX - muttzen, 18,XXX - AdmiralMotti89)
Tatooine - 120k? (111,XXX - AdmiralMotti89, 35,XXX ConnorPsh, 31,XXX - ZapR)
Coruscant - 30k? (20,XXX - muttzen, 14,XXX - AdmiralMotti89)
Reflections III - 30k? (17,XXX - AdmiralMotti89, 14,XXX - AdmiralMotti89, 13,XXX - Platypus)
Theed Palace- 20k? (14,XXX - muttzen, 12,XXX - AdmiralMotti89)

If anyone has high numbers, I'll add them to the list.

edit: going to log the highest numbers I can find...

Here's what I got that's higher than what's already on the list:

Hoth Revised - 21100
JP - 143257

I'm curious how we could find out about the print runs for boxes pre-JP without the serial number on the bottom...

If someone has opened the pre-JP boxes, I believe there is a ticket that usually comes with it, with the serial number. Sometimes, this ticket slips out of the bottom of the box and is visible in the shrinkwrap.

Darn, I've been throwing those out for years, never thought anyone would have a use. I will try to remember this thread next time!

This is a cool project.

Aren't there some former Decipher employees kicking around the forums/fb groups? Might they have some insight?

This feels like a fun game, does anyone remember barcode battler (I know this is not the same, but this for some reason reminded me of that)

Didn't someone propose using the German Tank Problem ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_tank_problem ) in order to solve this? If someone wants to get enough data to calculate this, I can share the numbers on all my boxes. I think we're making two assumptions in that (1) the number refers to the # of boxes produced and (2) it doesn't roll over at any point but I think those are fair assumptions.

I did mention it but it has been a long time since I have done math that has letters in it.

Wow that's super fascinating, I've never seen that before. As both an actuary and a history enthusiast this is right up my alley :-D

Tatooine: 11121
Theed Palace 133711
Coruscant: 208101
ANH Limited: 5008122242 (not sure what this means!)

EDIT: Added these that also don't match what others are posting?
Reflections 3: 285102
Reflections 1: 1252102

My Coruscant and TP numbers seem way higher than other people's so here's a pic to make sure I'm looking at the right ones:

https://ibb.co/p4ysNtQ

A lot of the older sets don't have them? Many of mine are folded/cut so could have been removed. That new hope one seems weird too. Any ideas there?

Yeah I think the numbers you're supposed to be looking at are stickers on the bottom of the booster boxes, just like Tattooine

As for the earlier sets, they're printed on the bottom of the box, or are a ticket inserted. Those are going to be a little bit more difficult to find because idk how many people are like me and enjoy keeping empty boxes.

That new hope box is really strange, who knows what's going on there.
