commentary volunteers needed!

Post by WiseMarsellus »

hey, we need people to do commentary for worlds, and this is the best place to organize it all. we will have people on site coordinating the logistics and the webcam, but we need people off-site who can provide voice-over commentary. if this sounds like something you're interested in doing, please reply here with the times you can cover. i will update this thread accordingly. ideally we'd like to have up to two people for each block of time. please note that we do not expect anyone to cover the blocks of time for the entire day, just as much as they can.

all times in eastern daylight time (gmt -4). i'm dividing it up by time but we'd definitely prefer it if we could do whatever caster switches we need in between games. if that's not possible it's not a big deal, just a preference thing.

friday august 12

the first major day of the event. worlds day 1 starts at 1 pm, the team tournament at 6 pm. neither are particularly high priority to cast, but they are definitely fun. if you are new to casting and are nervous about it you may want to sign up for the day 1 slot. casting the team tournament, on the other hand, is not for the faint of heart. though it is a more relaxed atmosphere there will be two games going on at a time. sign up to cast this time if you love frenzy and chaos.

9pm - 10pm: cal alread
10pm+ (hopefully ends by ~ 11pm): cal alread

saturday august 13

day two. the big event. even at the very beginning of the day the feature matches will generally feature elite players facing off. the field is always so stacked that there are bound to be at least two high-profile names matched up. if you love the game for the strategy and depth of play, this day is the day for you.

10am - 11am: maven, steve buscemi, jarad konsker
11am - 12pm: maven, steve buscemi, jarad konsker

10pm + (again, hopefully not much later than 11pm): maven, jarad konsker

sunday august 14

worlds day three. only the best of the best remain. day 3's matchplay formats can make even the most lopsided games tense affairs. this day is all about competition, and the best casters will highlight that part. ideally we'd like coverage teams to work for a full match, which probably runs about 2.5 hours.

10am - 11am: brad eier, matt thornton
11am - 12pm: brad eier, matt thornton

Will we have a casting room in the hotel for onsite people to commentate? That's been fun in the past but maybe it's not the most reliable?

i'm not the technical expert, but my understanding is that casting onsite degrades the stream quality because of bandwidth limitations or something to that effect. maven or raith may be able to provide more detail there

I imagine that depends on the hotel. But makes sense.

I think Lingrell may have already arranged things, because he already asked me to work Saturday.

As for on site, it should depend on how the stream is set up. My preferred method and raiths are completely different and have different interactions with on-site commentary.
Well, Bye.

Just a reminder to folks, if possible it is ideal to have two folks cast at the same time. So there is lots of space for more commentary
Well, Bye.

I'm available to help anytime Friday or Saturday. This would be my first time so I would like to help out a veteran commentator. I don't know anything about how to get set up to stream commentary from my end, but I'd be willing to put in the work to learn.

I'm available for the first 2 games on Saturday, perhaps more if needed. I have a 6 hour time differential (CET) and like Mr. Fahrenheit it would also be my first time doing online commenting for a game. As I am not a native English speaker bear with me if my English vocabulary lets me down on occasions. If there is some testing needed before the stream starts please let me know.

Friday starting at 1pm throw me in. I can do at least until 4. If it is acceptable, I will try to have a fellow Montana team member jump onto the stream for a while if he is available.

Whoever takes on these spots, please PM me. I'll shoot you my cell and you can text me for information. I'll do what I can. I know this helped Casey, and Maven a bunch.

Worst case for any of these spots, we can take a laptop up to a room and join in there and do commentary.
