Hearthstone

Post by jmurda35 »

Anybody else get a beta invite? So far it seems like the mechanics are overly simple, like any competent (which is all I'd consider myself at best) SWCCG or Magic player can easily assess the possible exploits. I'm pretty underwhelmed at this point.

No invite here, but what I saw on youtube did make the game look pretty simple.

If this game gets a lot of fans and sticks around though, it will probably become deeper and more complicated over time.

Hearthstone mechanics are essentially WoW TCG lite (not surprising). I'm a bit surprised there isn't more buzz about SolForge hereabouts...in fact I think I'll go start a thread.

I played to lvl 11 with Jaina. The game seems fun at first sniff but I don't see myself paying cash for packs. Maybe it's a little childish and simple but the fancy sound effects and sleek interface redeem it. If only Holotable had the kind of money behind it that Blizzard puts behind its games... Definitely going to continue playing...

I would never pay for packs, but I might pay for arena entrees. Arena is so addicting, although I have not had that much trouble winning my money back.

I got an invite on Tuesday as well. Don't have a ton of free time but I did the tutorial and then played two practice matches against the AI. Not sure how I feel about a 5-minute card game. Will have to play it some more when I can find the time.

Definitely wouldn't buy packs.

Curious what happens long term. At some point does Blizzard just say "Thanks for your money buying cards, we're deleting it all now." Or do they keep releasing updates/expansions forever (like WoW) and try to make the game last forever as long as they are in business?

I don't think that packs are going to be the long term money maker.

Arena will make a lot of money - its really addicting, and 150 gold isn't *that* easy to come by.
Also, I suspect they will eventually start constructed tournaments with some type of reward, at which point there will be a cost. Either gold or cards.
Well, Bye.

As you progress and the AI gets tougher, games last longer. Mage is the only class I've leveled and the rogue, hunter and warrior were the toughest matchups. Warrior match took around 15 minutes I think. And I play fast. there isn't a whole lot of complexity thus far.

I played against a real person once, they had the mage starter deck and I used a Mage deck with taunt creatures/fireballs/polymorh/arcane explosion/card draw and it took 20 minutes. partly because my deck has a long win condition but mostly because my opponent was slow.

Does everyone start as the mage or is it random? It reminds me of duel of Duel of the Planeswalkers in the sense that it will be a grind to unlock (level up) the cards for each class.

My practice matches were against the Warrior (I lost, then tried again and won). Yes it took more than 5 mins since he kept giving himself armor over and over.

Everyone starts as the Mage. The tutorial is based around it, so I highly doubt that will change. If you didn't know, your deck in the tutorial was rigged so you'd always draw cards in the same order as everyone else doing the tutorial. They wanted you to learn about things in a certain order.
