Tournament Menu Suggestions

The current tournament menu looks like this:

1. Problem: Events/Tournaments links to a cool event-searching page. Unfortunately, I don't think anybody puts their events into this system so it is empty/useless. Also, this looks really bad to any NARPs who are exploring the website for the first time. Some NARPs may look here rather than the forums and conclude that there are no events anymore.

Solution: Drop the cool event-searching page*
Events/Tournaments should expand to a submenu with 2 options:
-Major Events - link to viewforum.php?f=439
-Local and Online Events - link to viewforum.php?f=442
-Clicking directly on Events/Tournaments should also take the user to the Local and Online Events section.

*As a software developer, I know that one of the most painful decisions is having to throw away a perfectly good piece of software.
I have worked on several big projects that worked great in theory but ultimately didn't get used much or at all. It hurts but you have to move on and use the solution that actually works in practice.


2. Problem: Hovering the "Tournament Resources" menu item opens a sub-menu of 2 items, but it's unclear that the user can also click directly on "Tournament Resources" to bring up a 3rd page with useful files (tourney guide, flyers, FAQs, etc).

Solution: This one is easy, add a 3rd submenu item inside Tournament Resources called "Files and FAQs" which links to https://www.starwarsccg.org/resources/t ... resources/. It's okay for "Tournament Resources" to continue linking to this page as well.

That's it. I think these 2 changes would improve the Tournaments menu.

3. Tournament Reports currently links to a cool page that nobody has used in over 2 years. Please change it to link to the forum that people do use: viewforum.php?f=1040

I think most tournaments would benefit from tacos being served.

While we're at it, can the Tournament Reports link on the main page be redirected to the actual subforum, instead of going to https://www.starwarsccg.org/community/t ... t-reports/

That page doesn't have any TRs within the last 30 months, which combined with nothing on the event calendar, makes it look like the community/game is pretty dead.

If the event calendar is going to get re-directed to a forum, makes sense to do the same with TRs. Both these changes would encourage more NARPs to actually register here....and one day they too can grow up to be seasoned vets who * on the main page as an unnecessary waste of resources. It's the circle of life.

My Tournament Menu is usually whatever the closest, chainiest chain fast food restaurant is. I take no risks when grabbing a mid-tournament burger.

Bump to fix our menus.

No one is going to use the main page unless that side of things gets a major overhaul.

But NARPs start there and see pages linking to ghost town features (tournaments, tournament reports) that make it look like nobody has played SWCCG in years.
So lets just fix that with a couple of quick and easy link updates.

I think it would be fantastic if people would post things like events and TRs outside of the forums. I think it would be great if we utilized a lot more of the things outside of the forums.

As mentioned, there are going to be updates and changes to how the site is organized, but all the re-organization and face-lifting in the world will not make up for people refusing to use anything but the forums. If people are willing to use and contribute to the resources outside of the forums, then it's worth the money we've spent on making it look better. I would really hate for that money to go to waste by people not utilizing and contributing to those other sections of the website that aren't the forums.

To make it easier, forum accounts should be bridged, so you won't have a separate username/password, which should make it easier to post things like events, articles, etc.

Make it easy for people to tie forum content on the main page, even a link. Don't make them redo it, or do it separately.

Yes but many other people (narps, people just realizing we are still around) don't have the same inclination to go check out a message board for what's happening in the next month or two. That's something unique to our community that has been around for years doing it the same old way forever. The point of keeping the website calendar/articles updated is to show the people that aren't inclined to check the forums first and foremost that there is an active presence here. It doesn't have to mean "stop doing what is easy for you." It has a higher purpose.
