Spellfire
So I played spellfire pre swccg and wanted to loom at some old cards for nostalgia.
Someone gave me this: https://lm.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3 ... -xSGlQh0SF
Could someone point me in the direction of how I can learn how to just view the images? Or is it not that easy?

Re: Spellfire
looks like if you download the master zip file, it has folders with all of the cards in jpg format. i don't understand the organization (never heard of this game before), but you might.

Re: Spellfire
Never heard of Spellfire before? That's tough to believe. Maybe you just forgot about it. But it's one of the two OGs of collectible card games. (Just in case you haven't heard of either of the two OGs, the other one was called "Magic: The Gathering.")
Re: Spellfire
I haven't either.

Re: Spellfire
It's not worth anyone trouble. It's a really really bad game. But it's something that a few of us play together, or at least did 25 years ago.
The game basically uses recycled DND art which was not something people liked.
There was no deploy cost so something that was 20 power deployed the exact same way something that had one power deployed. It was not a very thought out game.

Re: Spellfire
That doesn't inherently fail- the EPIC Card Game from White Wizard has a binary cost (cards either cost 0 or 1, and each player has 1 gold to spend on each turn) and I've heard it plays quite well.

Re: Spellfire
EPIC is or was a good game. It's roughly "type 4" magic, but well balanced, and with very interesting deck construction rules.

Re: Spellfire
Yeah, that's probably what happened. Ask him if maybe he's heard of the other OG collectible card game though. The "Magic: The Gathering" game I mentioned previously. Because if not, then I could believe that he's not heard of Spellfire either.
Re: Spellfire
Sticking with that even though there's 4 people who have said that now?
So it seems you are proposing that the venn diagram overlap of "heard of mtg" and "heard of spellfire" is a 100% overlap.
What that would imply though is that they are equally popular.
If MTG is more popular, then it would be clearly plausible that someone has heard of MTG and not spellfire, so your "you probably know it if you know of mtg" doesn't hold.
I would posit MTG is more popular (hope I don't need a citation, but can provide), therefore it is the case that one could have heard of that, and not spellfire.
So if the empirical evidence from the first sentence of this post didn't convince you, maybe that straightforward logic will?
Wait, I remembered who I'm talking to. Looking forward to the next doubling down post.

Re: Spellfire
No, it does not imply that.
Anyway, calm down, man. People forget things. I don't know why you're making it a big deal.
See? People forget things. You even forgot who you were talking to.arebelspy wrote:Wait, I remembered who I'm talking to
Re: Spellfire
Yeah, never understood this criticism. Would've made sense to me for the TSR fans to think it was cool to see iconic and recognizable imagery from Dungeons & Dragons incorporated into the game. And when the superfans were showing the game to friends, they could drop tidbits about "this image was originally from ____!"
TSR probably figured the game's IP would give it a built-in fanbase that the other OG collectible card game couldn't have, since it wasn't really based on...anything. Instead that "base" turned on the game, and it got dusted by the game that was based on nothing. Was interesting to watch that unfold.

Re: Spellfire
I heard of Spellfire. Remember playing it a few times during the heydays of trading card games when there were like 30 different games on the market at least.
I remember vaguely something about deplyoing your cards hidden in a pyramid form?

I would postulate that Hunter is one of the older ones left on these boards including Advocate and the reason why they know it and you youngsters don't.
