So, the store wants $100 to host the event, as it's for a game they don't stock. Does that seem a little ridiculous to anyone? The most expensive event I've ever run at a game store was $5 per person. If that doesn't seem too crazy to people, I'm fine with it, but I wanted to get other people's take.

How many people are you anticipating?

How much of the store's regular playspace are you going to be taking up?

Is the store offering $100 in store credit as prizes?

I know at my store we don't ever charge people to play on our tables, even for games that are dead or we don't stock (Heroscape). When they run heroscape tournies they collect $5 per head and then use that to buy gift certificated for the winners. You could try approaching your LGS with the same offer - thats guaranteed sales rather than a fee.

I would offer you my store to run it at (for free) but we are about 25 miles outside of MA (and likely the wrong end for you Boston folks, we are in NY).

Still, let me know if you end up needing a place if our being outside MA isn't a problem.

Anticipating 10-15 people. The store holds 80-100 (they have a 3 room basement, plus space upstairs). No store credit. They want to make up for the amount of product people usually buy at a regular event (they don't stock our game).

I counter-offered $25 + $5 per head. So that would mean $75 for a 10 person event and $100 for a 15 person event. I already spent $80 between the event registration and the glass, so $180 for an event is a little steep for me. I usually don't like to charge more than $5/player but I might go to $10 for this event. If that's a problem for anyone they can PM me and we can work something out (I'm not turning anyone away).

Okay, I cleared it up. They thought I was with a company that made an in-print game that I was trying to promote. As soon as they realized it was just a bunch of people who wanted to play an out of print game they apologized and told us we could have the space for free. So, we're all set for Sunday the 24th at noon. I'll update the main post.

What do people want for prize support? I'm thinking of getting one of the following

a) A box of black border Premiere
b) A box of Japanese ANH
c) The PC prize support package with a bunch of tourney foils, EPPs, and random rares

I'm not inclined to purchase a V-card design because it only benefits 1 person (and we already have glass for that), but if there's a strong desire for that instead of any of the other options I'd consider that too.

I vote for something that helps the PC. Either the rare package or the vcard. But, if you can talk to Scott and buy boxes from him instead that would change my vote too.

I might be in.
I've been away from the v-cards for about 4 years or so.
I've been playing mainly classic format but I just might slap together a deck with v-cards.
There is a huge player base for the classic format. Any interst in having a side event?

Kinda hard to run a side event when the main event takes up the whole day. The classic scene in Worcester seems to have kinda died out lately. I haven't heard about any events in a while. If those guys want to run a classic event they should step up and run it, but if they can't get turnout for events in Worcester when most of them are based there or in Springfield I don't really hold out much hope for many of them traveling to Boston for a side event.

As of now I am planning to head to this States thing. I'm most likely going to play Classic decks of some sort. I have no desire to play v-cards from the ridiculousness I've seen in the past. I know I'll be playing against v-cards but whatever I'll still have fun. Yeah I haven't seen any info lately on the Worcester tournaments either. The guys must be busy. No prob. We always get at least a dozen Classic players at those so I'm sure they'll pop up again...

I'd totally be down for a classic game as many of my decks are just that. I'll have to keep an eye out for that Worchester tournamet. I've also made a few decks utilizing V-cards and they're not to bad honestly.
