Also, any reasoning for why these events don't at least count towards PotY at least at same value as regional/states?
Usually these still have some competition with them starting without only 4-8 players who were in the tournament the day before.

I didn't see a post for this mystery event. The MPC consolation bracket was posted and what was referenced.
