SWCCG history: Timeline of all releases

Post by Weyoun9846135 »

I believe this is useful not only for collectors in general, but also and especially for those wanting to make sense of decklists of any particular point in time.
For better clarity, I've put the now tournament-illegal so-called "Legacy" sets (released between 2002 and 8/2014) into a Spoiler.

German-language releases:
۰ Premiere German was planned for release in spring 1998, however never actually was released. For reference, see e.g. the ad in the German edition of Star Wars Insider #9 here

Info on all cards from the Decipher-era (1995 to 2001) and on all current Virtual cards (since 9/2014) can easily be found e.g. in the Scomp Link Access database here.

For reference, the V-slips of all cards from the legacy era (2002 to 8/2014) can be found:
a) For the original 17 Virtual Sets released between 2002 and 2009 here (ZIP containing the PDFs)
b) For all the legacy cards as they were organised into the nine Virtual Blocks here (DS PDF) and here (LS PDF). Attention: The Virtual Blocks are called "Virtual Sets" in these latter two PDFs, which can be confusing at first

If you have info that helps to replace the last remaining question marks in above timeline or that adds other valuable & relevant info in general, please send me a PM and let me know. I'll then update this post!

I'm curious about the Premiere Introductory Two-Player set. The copyright date on all of mine say 1995. Are we sure it wasn't released until 2/1996?

I'd maybe add the Japanese released Dagobah cards - they didn't print them in Japanese but released the English language versions in Japan with that distributor's information on the packs or was it just on the price label? Anyways, I know that people have recently been listing these and have a following. Also mention that they were going to re-introduce the game in Japan with the Japanese manga type of imagery.

Nope, maybe printed in 1995 but release was in Feb 1996.

Good point Scott, thanks. They had simply added a Japanese-language Takara/Carta Mundi sticker to the back of the English-language Dagobah booster pack. So it doesn't really qualify as its own set. Still happy to add that info. And yes to the would-be manga relaunch!

There was a pretty long gap between 8.2 and 9.1 in Legacy (16 months). Anyone have any insight on why that was? Was that when reset momentum or discussion kicked up?

I have an unnamed 8.3 set from March 2013.
Not sure if that is correct, but is closes the gap.

Makes sense and happy to add it - can anyone corraborate, just to be sure?
Chris, do you have slips for a set 8.3 or just a note about it?

Didn't Germany have their own boxes of the 2-Player Games in English but they were made by a different company than Parker Brothers so that other company's names are on the boxes themselves? Or am I confusing that with the Japanese versions?

There is a Waddington's version for the UK, not sure if that is what you mean. I don't know if it would have been sold in the rest of Europe, but it is possible.
